Job Description:

The Sr. Estimator is responsible for preparing comprehensive, accurate, and timely construction estimates. Works in a Team that prepares Estimates in the range of $50 to 700M. Uses technical experience gained in general estimating in the office and field assignments to interpret documentation, specifications, and design drawings. Checks the work of others or performs Material Take Offs from engineered drawings or sketches. Is responsible for estimating Direct and Indirect labor hours, labor cost, material cost, construction equipment cost, subcontractors’ hours, and subcontractors’ cost. Ensures that drawings are checked and evaluated to determine if items required for construction are missing from specifications or drawings. Ensures that quality checks are performed on the Estimate. Works under the general direction of the Lead Estimator or Estimating Manager. Performs or ensures that interface with other functional organizations is performed to provide estimating input or obtain output. When needed, provides direction to Estimators.

Construction bidding and projects require the systematic estimating of costs for work performed at construction sites. Carrying out the estimating includes participation is the proposal team and functional meetings; providing status of assigned work, complying with the company's Estimating documentation system and policies & procedures; and working with team members.

Job Requirements:
A BS Degree in Engineering or Construction is preferred. Equivalent qualifications may include a two year diploma in engineering technology or Journeyman plus experience. Approximately, 10 years of practical experience in the office and the field preparing and organizing estimates for construction bids & projects is required. Leadership experience is desired.

Your Resume should identify the projects, their description, and locations; field experience and the estimating discipline such as Civil, Structural, and Architectural: Mechanical; and Electrical and I&C. Knowledge & experience in Oil & Gas construction is preferred. Equivalent experience in other process & industrial plant construction is acceptable. Explain your estimating skills in more than one discipline. The Job Description described above explains requirements for definitive, "Bottoms Up" estimating using specifications & drawings and performing detailed Material Take Offs. Your Resume should include experience using Top Down methods for preparing Order of Magnitude using factoring and scaling methods. Resumes should describe supervisory experience. Describe experience providing classroom and/or estimator on-the-job training. Requirements include the ability to using work breakdown structures; reporting estimating progress; et al. The abilities to interface and communicate effectively, having effective interpersonal skills, and self-motivation are required. Computer skills include Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint). Intermediate and senior estimators are expected to have skills in estimating & take off software and familiarity with 3D modeling and Primavera or MS Project.

Your Resume should identify memberships and preferably certifications such as: Alberta Society for Engineering Technologist (ASET); Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering, International (AACEI); American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE); Alberta Quantity Surveyors Association (AQSA); Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and engineering or trade licenses or certifications.
